A BYD it has the ambition to continue with a strong global expansion in the coming years, when it is already one of the best known Chinese manufacturers outside its country – including in Europe, where it will soon produce locally.
But like all companies in all sectors of activity, he has challenges ahead of him. And one has to do with the current global geopolitical scenario marked by trade and political tensions and even conflicts with potential impact on the market.
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said at a Singapore summit quoted by Reuters: “When we do business, we want to accomplish something with the certainty and visibility that we can control and we can invest. But, with geopolitics, you never understand what angle and what they're doing“.
The purpose of BYD is clear: to be the car manufacturer “number 1 globally in terms of scale within five years”. The statements are from President Wang Chuanfu last June, also quoted by Reuters.
United States out of the question
But despite its growth and ambitions, there is a market that is already out of account although it has important dimensions – the United States of America, where it is virtually impossible to sell cars from China.
By the way, it's right on the table legislation to keep away not only chinese manufacturers, but also those held in more than 15 percent by chinese owners.
“We don't have clarity, visibility and stability, so let's wait and not enter the US for passenger cars at this time,” Stella Li said about the possible arrival of BYD on the American market.
On the other hand, the leader spoke of the difficulties in hiring sufficient staff in China – a challenge she hopes to respond to in the future with the use of industrial robots.
