O newsom's request arose following statements Trump made at a campaign rally, in which he suggested that Iran should attack the Californian cities of Los Angeles or San Diego.

In a statement sent to the American media, Newsom states that Trump is a “mental patient” and points out to be “height to apply the 25th amendment”, in a reference to the constitutional provision establishing the presidential succession of a leader who cannot fulfil the duties of the office.

In this way, the Californian governor takes another step against Trump, after having classified in previous publications his words as “crazy”, criticizing the “dangerous and disturbed” act of pointing cities at an eventual military attack by Iran.

By the way, he recalled that in Southern California there are more than 130,000 military personnel. Newsom, who will not be eligible for re-election on November 3, is seen as one of the leading Democratic leaders and potential candidate for the 2028 presidential race.

At a campaign rally in Nebraska, the head of the White House, speaking about the conflict with Iran and the impact on fuel prices, said that “they could end a city,” when he pointed out Los Angeles or San Diego as possible targets for Iranian attacks.

“It’s a very small price to pay, and the war with Iran will end very soon,” he said.

Subsequently, the California Democratic delegation in Congress agreed on a statement requiring Trump to apologize in the wake of these statements, recalling that a President, in taking office, swears to “defend the Constitution and protect the nation from enemies.”.
