Man sentenced to effective imprisonment for trying to kill a GNR

ANDpGDP notes that, by judgment of 22 September, which has not yet passed judgment, the Guimarães Central Criminal Court has proved the facts on the prosecution of the Public Prosecutor, condemning the defendant for murder, in the attempted form, for the arrest of a prohibited weapon and for a crime of damage, in the sole (effective) sentence of five years and 10 months in prison.

The court proved that, on a date not specifically established, but situated between the death of the father and 12 June 2025, “the defendant altered a two-pipe shotgun, making it easily portable and susceptible to concealment.”.

By 14:20 June 12, 2025, “the defendant moved to a neighboring terrain, carrying a handcart, among other things, a knife of 33 cm (cm) long (21 cm of blade) and the modified rifle municated with two 20 mm caliber cartridges, ready to fire and stored in a bag”.

“ On that day, called to the site by the neighbors, three GNR military personnel attended duly uniformed. In these circumstances, the defendant took the bag where he held the rifle, introduced the right hand inside it, grabbed it by the buttock and pointed it to the abdominal area of the military ", the PGDP notes.

According to the PGDP, “the military noticed the presence of pipes, gave the warning and engaged in physical confrontation with the defendant, who actively tried to reach the trigger to fire, while the military and the other two guards sought to divert the weapon and manipulate it.”.

The court also gave as proof that “the defendant acted with the intention of taking the military’s life, a result that was not verified by reason of the defense reaction of the victim and the other military.”.

The collective of judges deliberately arbitrary a compensation of 5 thousand euros in favor of the GNR military, for the non-patrimonial damage, fear and disturbance suffered.

The loss in favour of the State of all weapons, ammunition, knives and explosive/incendiary devices seized to the defendant, which remains subject to the measure of coercion of preventive imprisonment, was also decreed.
