The IL today criticized the speech of the President of the Republic in commemorating the implementation of the Republic, for defending the need for reforms, but commending an understanding between the PSD and the PS regarding the next State Budget.

“ It was an interesting speech in which the President of the Republic says what the Liberal Initiative has been saying for years, that we need to move forward, that we need to reform, that we need to get to the root of the problems in order to solve them, that we cannot carry on with Band-Aids”, began by affirming to the journalists the deputy of IL Angélique da Teresa, at the end of the celebration ceremony of the 116th anniversary of the implementation of the Republic, in Praça do Município, in Lisbon.
The Liberal MEP added that she hopes that “the Prime Minister will have listened very carefully” to António José Seguro’s speech and “that he has taken the message to the government, that he will no longer have propaganda measures and that he will in fact begin to solve the country’s problems”.
“It was a pity, then, in the speech of the President of the Republic, that we heard the opposite, that it is commending the understanding between the PS and the PSD regarding a budget that is not even known and, therefore, effectively, we will not be able to reform anything,” he said.
For IL, the government “does not have the courage to make the reforms that the country so badly needs”, exemplifying with the study on Social Security and the reforms for future pensioners “who will once again be in the drawer”.
The President of the Republic today called for a new political culture of inter-party commitments for several legislatures, defended the importance of political stability and welcomed the rapprochement between the PSD/CDS-PP and PS government on the State Budget.
