Otwo countries presented contradictory versions of the incident and, on Saturday, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry called the Indian business officer to Islamabad, today the EFE agency.
In a statement released at the end of Saturday night, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs classified the charges relating to the incident, which took place on Friday in the Ferozepur region of Punjab, as “unfounded and malicious” and also presented a “strong protest” against the continued facilitation of infiltrations from Pakistani territory.
According to the Indian version of the facts, three people infiltrated their territory and, despite multiple warnings from the Border Security Force (BSF) to return, continued to advance towards the border fence.
In view of this, the agents “were forced to confront them because they posed an imminent threat to security,” the Indian ministry said.
New Delhi also urged the Pakistani Government to investigate alleged drug smuggling activities, as well as the “complicity” of its border security forces, demanding decisive measures to prevent unauthorized movements.
This diplomatic measure was a direct response to the subpoena issued on Saturday by Islamabad, who asked the Indian representative to protest against what he described as a “totally unjustified” use of lethal force.
According to Pakistani authorities, Indian troops acted unannounced in Kasur district against three unarmed residents of a local village, killing two men and injuring a third.
Pakistan categorically denied that they were infiltrated.
This last confrontation exacerbates the already tense relations between the two nuclear powers, which have deteriorated since August 2019, when New Delhi revoked Kashmir's status of special autonomy under its administration.
Islamabad responded by reducing diplomatic relations and suspending bilateral trade.
In May 2015, the two countries were involved in a brief but intense military confrontation following an attack on tourists in India-run Kashmir.
