A Iranian Navy announced today that a third tanker burned down after hitting a naval mine in the Strait of Ormuz, where two other ships suffered similar incidents on Friday.

“ This morning, an oil tanker that sailed in a forbidden and unsafe zone in the east of the Strait of Ormuz, ignoring the repeated warnings and with the navigation systems off, burned down and was immobilized after hitting a naval mine,” said the Iranian Navy, in a statement quoted by the agency Tasnim.

The Navy, which did not specify the tanker’s flag or the extent of the damage, warned that “this will be the fate of all ships and vessels that violate warnings and sail in prohibited zones.”.

The announcement appears after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard informed on Friday that two other oil tankers burned down and were immobilized after hitting naval mines, when they tried to leave the Strait of Ormuz by “unauthorised” routes.

Since the beginning of October, attacks and incidents with naval mines in the Strait of Ormuz have multiplied in a context of Iranian pressure on maritime traffic and diplomatic efforts to end the war with the United States.

The Revolutionary Guard reiterated on Friday that the strait will remain blocked until the United States accepts the seven conditions imposed by Iran to end the conflict.

Tehran's demands include the end of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, the thawing of its assets in third countries, the recognition of the control of the Ormuz Strait by Iran and Oman and the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil.

While the Islamic Republic and the United States maintain indirect negotiations, with Qatar's mediation, to put an end to the war, the U.S. forces launched, on Friday night, new “limited” reach attacks against Iranian anti-aircraft defense systems on the island of Qeshm, in the Strait of Ormuz.

These were the second attacks on Iranian territory since September, after those carried out on Monday against the south of the country.
