Iran? Trump will decide if war ends

“ ANDwe are extremely well in relation to the Islamic Republic of Iran, very well. They have no army, it is destroyed,” Trump declared at the beginning of an event with military personnel at the port of Baltimore (Maryland), having as background a warship.

“ They were the bad guys, they were the harassers of the Middle East and they're not that bad anymore. But we have to break up. It's just a question of how we want to do this right or wrong? And very soon they will know”, he added.

Trump is in full campaign for the mid-term elections of November 3, in which, according to the polls, Republicans may lose control of Congress due to the unpopularity of the war with Iran and the rising price of gasoline resulting from the blockade of the Ormuz Strait.

The Republican President stated on several occasions that the war will end after the mid-term elections, and during the recent UN General Assembly declared that he was considering the possibility of “annihilating” Iran.

The United States and Israel launched their offensive on 28 February with the stated objective of overthrowing the ayatollah regime and preventing the Islamic republic from developing nuclear weapons.

The various negotiating rounds to reach a nuclear agreement to end the conflict resulted in a memorandum on June 17, which Trump himself signed after almost four months of armed conflict.

The document provided for 60 days to negotiate the final end of the war and other issues such as the Iranian nuclear programme, but the conflict was resumed three weeks later, with Iran attacking ships crossing the Strait of Ormuz, an international shipping route without its permission.

Since the death, at the beginning of the conflict, of the then Iranian supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the son and successor Mojtaba Khamenei is not seen in public and, according to Trump, “no one knows who the hell is in charge of the country.”.

Very critical of the NATO allies' refusal to engage in war, Trump maintained that it should have acted against Iran long ago.

“ But we have done a great job and, frankly, I get constant calls from world leaders who thank me”, he said.
