“ A Russia is creating a dangerous chain of consequences. By attacking civilian ships, it turns navigation into a challenge,” said Sybiha in a message about the recent wave of attacks on the Black Sea.

According to the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, increased risks to navigation raise the costs of insurance and transport and threaten the food supply of world markets.

Sybiha accused Moscow of transferring “the cost of his war against Ukraine” to countries far beyond Ukrainian borders.

“ The Russian attacks on the Black Sea are becoming more risky for sailors, higher costs for trade and greater uncertainty about food supplies for people far beyond the region,” the minister explained, arguing that freedom of navigation loses meaning if Russia can put civil crews and commercial ships at risk.

“ Global food security cannot depend on a grain freighter being able to cross the Black Sea without being hit by a Russian drone,” the minister added.

Sybiha argued that the international community should not allow Moscow to impose a “hidden tax on international trade through violence and insecurity”.

“ Containing the consequences is not enough. We must approach the source of danger. The greater the capacity that Russia retains to wage this war, the further its consequences will come,” said Sybiha.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy therefore advocated strengthening support for Ukraine and reducing Russian capacity for attacks.

The statements appear after the sinking and fire of two vessels in Bulgarian waters in the context of the attacks on the Black Sea.
