Uthe report published by the Financial Times reveals that since June 2024, Apple has met 257 times with European Union legislators. The report also reveals the amounts invested by Apple in lobbying.
The information used by the publication is taken from the European Parliament and the European Commission's databases as part of transparency initiatives. According to these data, Apple spends EUR 9 million a year lobbying in the European Union, with the Goal spending more than EUR 10 million.
In order to have a comparison term, these figures are higher than companies such as Total, Volkswagen and Airbus spend (combined) on lobbying activities.
“ American companies have used their influence in Brussels to oppose the block’s digital rules, on which US President Donald Trump repeatedly threatened to impose tariffs in response to Europe’s demand for ‘technological sovereignty’ to reduce its dependence on US technology.”You can read it in the Financial Times.
In reaction to this report, Apple stated only that it “interacts with policy makers on topics that are important to its customers and business.”.
Apple's new CEO wants to fire and launch more products
It was in early September that John Ternus succeeded Tim Cook as Apple's CEO and apparently already has plans to make major changes in the company's strategy.
Account to Bloomberg that Ternus intends to make a complete review of the way Apple operates and has plans to fire workers in intermediate positions. The goal is to accelerate the development of new products and bring to market not only models of existing devices, but also new categories.
According to the publication, Ternus intends “create a more agile organization with a greater focus on engineering”, with redundancies having as their goal “reducing layers between engineers and senior executives”.
The available information indicates that this redundancy processing is already underway. The publication notes that over the last two weeks, several middle-ranking workers have already been dismissed in the engineering division. “ These workers had a few weeks to find other positions inside Apple. Those who fail to secure new positions will be dismissed this year”You can read it at Bloomberg.
Ternus' decision does not appear to have been made only when he came to the lead position, with the publication indicating that, as senior vice president of the Hardware Engineering division, he has already argued that the company should control the number of people he hires.
“ While leading the Hardware Engineering division, [Ternus] told the workers during a meeting that Apple should hire fewer people, ask more of its current engineers and reduce organizational excess”Tell Bloomberg. “ During the presentation, he showed a ‘slide’ that showed the annual growth of workers and argued that the company should be able to do more with fewer employees”.
In a Bloomberg source, she even told us that the Apple environment is now more chaotic, noting that those responsible for product development teams are being pressured to create more products in shorter periods.
