O president of the Madeira Regional Government (PSD/CDS-PP), Miguel Albuquerque, today indicated that by November the region will have 410 new beds in homes, the process being finalized.
“ This project we have advanced includes 611 places and 410 are new. We are finalizing all these beds by November and that means an offer growth that is complemented with an offer that is given by Social Security, which usually has to do with those users who do not have the capacity to pay”, said the chief executive of Madeira.
Miguel Albuquerque spoke on the margins of the inauguration of the “Home of the Affections”, an investment of more than 2.4 million under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), developed by the Casa do Povo de Santo António, in Funchal that has capacity for 20 elderly residents and 10 more places in the day center valencia.
The Madeiran ruler said that some people “have the capacity to pay” the homes, but stressed that at this time the essential “is to exist this offer of social internment”.
“What matters is to resolve and have adequate offer for hospitalizations,” he reinforced, highlighting the importance of Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS) in this area.
On the other hand, the president of the Casa do Povo de Santo António, Eduardo Batista, said that the association intends, within the scope of Social Security, also to develop a home support project for the population living in the parish, besides betting on the creation of a housing cooperative.
According to the data provided by the Madeira Regional Health Service, there are more than 300 patients marked as “problem highs” in the total number of health units and centers.
