MTN 8 Cup

O Mamelodi Sundowns, trained by Portuguese Miguel Cardoso, today won the MTN 8 Cup, winning the Orlando Pirates 2–0 in the final played at Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban, South Africa.

At the final of the competition that brings together the top eight South African League top-rankings last season, the medium Mokoena put the Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the 12 minutes, before Iqraam Rayners fixed the final result at 90+5, through a major penalty.

The Portuguese Nuno Santos, former player of Vitória de Guimarães, was a member of Miguel Cardoso's team, which replaced him at 68 minutes.

With this victory, the Mamelodi Sundowns raised for the fifth time the trophy, which has existed since 1972.

Miguel Cardoso, 54, who took over the technical command of Mamelodi Sundowns in 2024/25, won the third title in the club, after the South African League and the League of African Champions.
