Maninho will be the king of Luso-Brazilian Carnival of Mealada in 2027

O singer and composer Maninho will be the king of Carnival of Mealada in 2027, year in which will be recovered the tradition of the Carnival Ball and promoted a contest of carnival windows, revealed today the organization.

“Bairrada Carnival is the feast of an entire region and proof that Portugal and Brazil fit on the same street. Maninho, with the samba that has inside him and the successes that the whole country sings, is the king that this Carnival asked for ", announced the president of the Carnival Association of Bairrada (ACB), Márcio Freixo.

The Luso-Brazilian Carnival program of Bairrada starts on January 29th and continues until February 14th, with several moments of animation, musical performances and traditional carnival parades scheduled for February 7th, 8th and 9th.

Maninho, who was born in Brazil and lives in Portugal for several years, will mark a place in the parades and perform in the tent on February 5, in a concert with free entrance.

“ We want an increasingly open Carnival for everyone, from the smallest to the most grown up, and more responsible for the environment. A Carnival that brings people from all over the country to Mealhada and shows the tireless work of our samba schools”: Partners of the Hose; GRES Batuque; GRES Real Empress and GRES Friends of Tijuca ", sustained Márcio Freixo.

The mayor of Mealhada, António Jorge Franco, said that Carnival in Mealhada, in the district of Aveiro, “is a very important tradition for the municipality” and “an event that is part of the promotion of the territory” that they intend to “continue to value and support”.

“ We know the effort behind this initiative, particularly on the part of the ACB [Association of Carnival of Bairrada] and samba schools, which continue to do remarkable work to bring Carnival to the streets every year. We want to continue to follow this dynamic and work to find solutions to create better conditions to further value this event”, he said.

Among the novelties of the edition of 2027 is the creation of a general ticket for the three days of parade, as well as the recovery of the traditional Carnival Ball, scheduled February 6, 2027, with the performance of Banda Fax.

There will also be a Carnival Montras Contest, in partnership with ACIBA (Bairrada and Aguieira Commercial and Industrial Association), whose results will be presented on February 9, 2027.

The presentation of samba schools will take place on January 29, 2027, being scheduled for the following day the Carnival Clumsy.

The Carnival Ball takes place on February 6, 2027, followed by three days of parade: during the afternoon on 07 and 09 and the evening parade on 08.

The route of the parade is the same as in previous years, in the city center, with exit next to the CTT and final in the Choupal Square, with bench areas next to the Court and 25 April Avenue.

The party ends on February 14 with the Carnival of the Child.

The organization also indicated that in the 2027 edition a specific area will be created in the stands for people with hearing disabilities, which will have the presence of sign language translators.

On Monday, the Municipality of Mealhada approved support that exceeds the 78 thousand euros to the Association of Carnival of Bairrada (ACB) and to the four samba schools, for the edition of 2027 of the carnival corsos.
