“ Athe polls have spoken. The Brazilian people, the only authority of democracy, made it clear that they want change,” Temer said, who presided over Brazil between 2016 and 2018, in a message entitled “Declaration to the Nation”, released on Monday.

The former head of state, who was Dilma Rousseff’s vice president and took over the presidency after his dismissal in an ‘impeachment’ process, stressed that “renewal appeared strongly in the composition of the National Congress”.

The Liberal Party (PL), led by Jair Bolsonaro, who serves in house arrest a long prison sentence for attempted coup d'état, is reinforced and will be the largest force in the Senate, with 28 of the 81 seats.

One of these places will be occupied by Michelle Bolsonaro, Jair's wife, and another by Carlos Bolsonaro, Flavio's brother.

The scenario in the House of Representatives is similar. According to an official projection, the PL will be the largest parliamentary group in the lower chamber, with 121 of the 513 deputies, more 24 than in the elections of 2022.

This force also manifested itself in the candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic, with its candidate, Flávio Bolsonaro, arriving “in the second round first”, said, in a reference to the senator of the Liberal Party, who finished the first lap ahead of Lula da Silva.

“Society does not want repeated formulas and rude speeches. He wants new ideas, new attitudes, new projects and a different path”, he said.

“So he wants reconnection. And reconnection is Flavius”, concluded Temer.

Flávio Bolsonaro obtained on Sunday 47.02% of the votes, an advantage of almost two percentage points over the current head of state, Lula da Silva (45.16%).

Both will compete for the Presidency in the second round on October 25.
