Carlos Coins wants to suspend the “shared scooter system” in Lisbon. The announcement was confirmed by the mayor in a video posted on social networks on the night of Thursday, October 15.
“ This is a shame and it's over. The system as it is is not working. They're trotinets, dangerous behaviors, more accidents and scooters abandoned in public space. We collect over 1,200 a month. We have therefore taken a decision: we will suspend the system of shared scooters in Lisbon”, said in the images the mayor of Lisbon.
We will suspend the current system of shared scooters in Lisbon. We want a Lisbon with free, safe and affordable tours, where everyone can move safely. https://t.co/AMiGvdGafe

Also tonight, on NOW channel, Carlos Coins pointed out that “over the years we have tried everything to solve the problem of scooters in our city”, which “is piling up”. “We made an agreement with those who are the suppliers of these shared scooters, it did not work.”.
“What do we see? We see a huge problem of public space and security. We see scooters going against the street, on the sidewalks, we see more and more accidents”, also pointed out, stressing that “there are many minors who use scooters”.
Also revealing that “only this year” the Chamber’s services have already collected “nine thousand scooters”, Carlos Coins explained in NOW that the companies “are, in a way, companies with a lot of money: we collect and even throw them away, they put on others“.
The mayor considered that “it is a war that will never end” and, in this sense, “the decision I made is to take the House meeting – i hope that the Socialist Party, which also voted for Braga, will accompany us in this decision – to make this immediate suspension of the scooters“.
The proposal should be discussed next Wednesday, October 21st.
It should be remembered that, on June 29, the Chamber of Braga approved, by majority, the suspension of shared scooters in the city, giving a period of 60 days for the complete removal of those equipment from the county.
In a response from an official source of the municipality chaired by João Rodrigues (elected by the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition), quoted by Lusa on August 28, it was explained that “Bolt, the only electric scooter operator currently operating in the city”, it would “collect all public space units from 31 August to 1 September, within the deadline set by the City Council“.
