Jeffrey Archer, a British writer and former politician, died this Monday at age 86. The news is advanced by HarperCollins.
Through a statement quoted by the BBC, HarperCollins said that the writer died “suddenly and peacefully at home” this Monday.
Jeffrey Archer sold over 300 million books throughout his five-decade career. Among the works are “The Clifton Chronicles” and “Kane and Abel”.
The former deputy was arrested in 2001 after lying and acting in bad faith in a defamation suit against the Daily Star in 1987.
Jeffrey Archer was born in northern London on April 15, 1940. However, his family moved soon afterwards to Weston-super-Mare in Somerset.
As early as 1969, Archer was elected deputy in the Louth constituency of Lincolnshire. For five years he was a deputy in parliament and then became president of the Conservative Party.
After being arrested in 2003, he returned to the House of Lords where he stayed until he retired in 2024.
As a writer, Archer's last book will be released this week. HaperCollins described Jeffrey Archer as a “master storyteller” whose readers “meant a lot to him.”.
The current leader of the Conservative Party said Archer’s death was a “great shock.”.
