Mais 150 illustrators integrate the “PIM! Illustration Show to imagine the world”, which today opened doors at the Folio – International Literary Festival of Óbidos, with authors from 20 countries making this the greatest edition ever.
“ This year the PIM gathered the largest number of illustrators in history,” Lusa said the co-curator of the exhibition, Flávia Bomfim, considering that this edition of the “Show of Illustration to Imagine the World” transforms the Galeria Nova Ogiva, in Óbidos, “in the Portuguese house that opens for an integrated celebration of the illustration, with illustrators from many parts of the world”.
More than 150 illustrators participating in the exhibition, curated by Mafalda Millions, include, in addition to the Portuguese, authors from countries such as Spain, Italy, India, England, France, Uruguay, Iran, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Belgium, Russia, the United States, Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria, challenged by the curators to give their interpretation of the theme of the festival “Beyond the skin”.
“ Perhaps the theme invited us to think about everything but the skin,” said Flávia Bomfim, a plastic artist, embroiderer and illustrator who joined Mafalda Millions to challenge illustrators to bet “in the exercise of unfolding the concept of skin and creating a collection of possible relationships between human skin, the skin of nature, and sewing art, among all skins, of different colors and geographies”.
With texts by Ana Pessoa inscribed in the Walls of Galeria Nova Ogiva, PIM “presents itself to be read” and seen on the various floors of the gallery where, from the walls to the ceiling, there are “drawings, transparencys, overlaps, clippings, shadows and suspended bodies”, bringing together the imaginary of the various illustrators in a kind of “mesh of the world.
In addition to PIM, Folio has 11 more exhibitions that can be visited in various areas of the village until the 18th.
Among them stands out the show of Comics “Flexagon”, in the Abílio Museum, space where are also designed short animated films of the producer Sardinha in Lata.
In the Center for Interior Design (CDI), a photography exhibition by João Francisco Vilhena and in the Chapel of S. Martinho can be seen an installation by Carlos Campos and Carla Gomes, entitled “We saw nothing in Minab”.
Other sites can also be visited drawing exhibitions, installations and painting exhibitions.
The Folio – Literary Festival of Óbidos takes place in the village until the 18th, under the motto “Beyond the skin”, bringing to the village the Nobel of literature Jon Fosse, among 450 authors who participate in about 300 initiatives.
