O jorge Fonseca, world champion in 2019 and 2021, was eliminated today in the first round of the category of -100 kg of the World Judo, in Baku, losing to Canadian Kyle Reyes, by 'yuko'.
The Portuguese bronze medal at the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games was defeated by the minimum score of 25 seconds of the extension against Reyes, who had already won three times, one of them on the way to revalidate in Budapest2021 the world champion title.
At the age of 33, Jorge Fonseca reached the capital Azeri in the 27th place of the category ranking and after having given good indicators at the Grand Slam in Budapest, where in September he won the silver medal, losing only in the final before the world leader, the Italian Gennaro Pirelli.
Fonseca adds 10 presences in World Championships, remaining as the only Portuguese to win a world title in the sport.
