O Miranda Land Museum, in Miranda do Douro, in the district of Bragança, today reopens with a free program that extends until Sunday, after four years closed for requalification and expansion works.
At the end of September, the museum director Celina Pinto reminded Lusa that the works included the purchase of three adjacent properties and had a cost of about two million euros, mainly via the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
The museum will now present “a new museological experience in which the mirandês takes a central place, side by side with Portuguese”, as the Museums and Monuments of Portugal, in a statement.
“ The new path values the material and immaterial heritage and puts in the center not only objects, but also people, voices, knowledge and practices that give them meaning. Language and territory, history, arts and crafts, domestic space, costumes, dance and music are some of the themes that integrate this new experience”, added the public company in the same text.
The reopening programme begins at 4:00 p.m. and provides for the presentation of a community performance entitled “L’AMPEÇO”, “developed with local communities under the artistic orientation of Ondamarela”.
The museum also presents the temporary exhibition “Ramos de Oferta da Terra de Miranda”, “dedicated to this tradition associated with the agricultural cycle, bread and community celebration”.
Between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. today there is a party in Praça D. João II, while on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. a guided tour of “Loas sung” is held by the Ethnographic Group of the Cultural Center of Sendim.
Founded in 1982 by a team led by António Maria Mourinho, the Miranda Land Museum holds collections from the municipalities of Miranda do Douro, Vimioso and Mogadouro, separated into categories such as Archaeology, Weapons, Hunting, Domestic Use Equipment, Musical Instruments, Objects of Ritual Use, Shepherding and Clothing, among others.
