Tmistakes, suspected of being linked to the Islamic State group, killed 15 military personnel and five members of anti-terrorism militias during an attack on a base in the state of Borno, northeast Nigeria, today announced military and local sources.

“ The terrorists killed 15 soldiers and five members of the CJTF (anti-jihadist civilian militia) who watched the soldiers during the attack,” a Nigerian army officer told the French news agency AFP.

The northeast region of Nigeria has been one of the targets of several deadly attacks by armed groups and terrorists.

Just last weekend, about twenty people, including eight military personnel and one police officer, were killed by armed men in two separate attacks in northwest and central Nigeria, residents and humanitarian sources reported on Monday.

Gangs specialized in kidnappings to demand rescue and theft of cattle – locally known as “bandits” – and extremist groups have recently intensified attacks in these regions of Nigeria.
