A European Union (EU) will support Nigeria's armed forces with supply of materials worth EUR 20 million under the Peace Facility was released today in Brussels.
The assistance, according to a statement from the EU Council, means providing non-lethal defence capabilities to the Nigerian armed forces in the areas of combatting improvised explosive devices, combating unmanned aircraft systems, night vision and individual protection.
The aim is to improve the security of troops deployed in Nigeria's national territory and to strengthen their capacity to respond against malicious external actors and armed groups.
The measure adopted today, the Council states, is aligned with shared priorities and discussed in the Nigerian-EU Peace, Security and Defence Dialogue and is part of the European commitment to peace and stability in the African country.
