Cessar Peixoto did not hide the dissatisfaction after Wolverhampton did not go, this Saturday, in addition to a draw in the visit to Wrexham (1-1), in the game of the 15th Championship journey, which prevented the wolves from jumping to the first place of the qualifying table.
“ I am not satisfied, because I think we deserved all three points. We were the best team in the 90 minutes and we mastered the game. We had more possession of the ball, more framed shots, more unsquared shots, more corner kicks, more of everything. They only made two goals and scored a goal. So I believe we deserved the three points, but the players did a fantastic job”, he started by saying Peixoto, in statements reproduced by the official Wolves channels.
The Portuguese coach also addressed the difficulties experienced by Wolverhampton in the games played outside the home, but argued that the team did enough to win at Racecourse Ground.
“ I think we played a great game because we dominated a tough field. Middlesbrough lost here in his last game, but I think we did enough today to win. A point was not what we intended, but it is an important point conquered outside the home. We've been undefeated for six games, which is also important to us. Now we have two games at home and we have to try to win both, win six more points and continue our good phase”, he explained.
Adam Armstrong was the author of the wolf goal at Wrexham and raised to three goals in the last four games, being the target of Caesar Peixoto's praises.
“ It was a big pass and a big goal. That's what I want to see in football all the time. Sometimes we throw it at colleagues' feet, sometimes we put the ball in space, on the back of the defensive line. But Adam made the move at the right time, Nasser made a big pass, and Adam had a tough finish. You did an excellent job. It was an important goal, but then, one or two minutes later, we suffered a goal ", said.
About the fact that they had the tie goal only two minutes after reaching the marker advantage, Peixoto admitted that he tried to make some tactical adjustments for the opponent, but that this was not enough.
“ We knew this team was very strong physically and quite aggressive within the area. Cross a lot of balls and practice very direct football. So today we put Toti on the team to help us defend within the area. We knew we were going to have to face these kinds of situations, although I think we could have done better in that thing. Still, the opponent was also well. After that, we got back into the game, dominated and created opportunities to score ", argued.
“ We pressed the opponent, but there were many players inside the area and next to the entrance to it, so it was difficult to find spaces. Still, we created opportunities and we could have won ", lamented.
Wolverhampton is now going through a competitive break because of the appointments of the selections, but Caesar Peixoto has shown hope that the players will return with the right mindset.
“ I hope so. I've already spoken to the players who will represent their selections. We want you to play for your countries, but you must not forget that you are also Wolves players. They must be focused on the service of selections, but without losing sight of our goals. This time, however, the situation is different, because the pause is shorter. Last time, we had three weeks, which was a long time. Then the players returned and two days later we started playing six games in two weeks. It was a very demanding sequence”, he stressed.
“ I hope the players return in better condition, without being as tired as last time, and that they remain focused on our work. We have two games at home and we have to try to win the six points”, finished the Portuguese coach.
It should be noted that Wolverhampton now amounts to 28 points and ranks fourth in the second English echelon, but there is only one point of the leader Birmingham (29).
