O investment in railways and highways will fall next year to EUR 843 million, compared to this year's EUR 868 million, according to the report accompanying the proposed state budget for 2027.

 

According to the document, although the investment in the railway and the implementation of the national railway plan rises from EUR 2027 million to EUR 736 million, compared to the EUR 639 million entered for this year, the roads fall to EUR 107 million (229 million in 2026).

“ In 2027, the implementation of the structural rail investments will continue, with emphasis on the advance of the high-speed line, the third crossing of the Tagus and the railway access to the new airport — around 440 million, which add up to more than EUR 10 billion in investments launched, awarded or in the process of contracting”, according to the document.

At the same time, according to the Government, “it will continue to modernise important lines of the conventional network, strengthen links to major national ports and expand the capacity of metropolitan public transport networks”.

“ The investments in the railway are aimed at modernizing and rehabilitating the national railway network by implementing the strategic projects of the Network Intervention Plan”, he said.

In the road component it also continues “the rehabilitation and expansion of the national network, with emphasis on priority road projects and current conservation cycles, in a context where the recovery of the infrastructure affected by the storms of early 2026 represents a significant additional burden”.

Freguesias will receive 440.1 million next year, according to OE2027

The parishes will receive a general grant of EUR 440.1 million next year, according to the proposal of the State Budget for 2027 delivered today to parliament. The figure represents an increase of 8.2% compared to the previous year.
