O father of the 14-year-old teenager who today shot teachers at a school center in southeastern France, causing injuries to two people, was also arrested after police found an arsenal of weapons in his home.
The information was given today by French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.
The young man’s mother is also in the police facilities to be questioned, however, they added some media.
During a press statement at the Joseph-Lakanal institute in Aubagne, on the outskirts of Marseille, where he went along with the Minister of Education, Édouard Geffray, Laurent Nuñez assured that the first elements of the investigation show that the young man committed “a premeditated act”, while asking for time to establish the motive and pointed out that “all hypotheses remain open.”.
The minister assured that several searches were carried out, some still ongoing, but indicated that the interrogations, including the minor, have not yet begun, so he considered premature to launch hypotheses on the reasons that led him to commit this criminal act.
The political officer recalled that Marseille’s deputy prosecutor, Audrey Jouaneton, opened an investigation for “tempt of murder,” which was entrusted to the criminal brigade, which, he said, “shows the seriousness of the facts.”.
“There is a work in progress (...) to understand how the young man was in possession of this weapon,” said the minister, who did not want to give more details about the development of research.
Shortly before, the prosecutor had detailed that the facts occurred around 9:25 local time (07:25 GMT), when the student took the gun, a cartridge-hunting rifle, which he had hidden in the school in a guitar case.
The young man went up to the first floor of the educational establishment, where he fired twice towards the hall where the director and a teacher were, who received impacts from the shooting in the legs, so they were hospitalized, although their lives were not in danger.
Then the teenager went up to the second and top floor, where he fired another shot, before entering a classroom occupied by other students and a teacher, firing again toward the blackboard.
Some students and other teachers suffered minor lead impacts that caused them mild injuries.
The prosecutor said that the student did not utter any sentence and that it was neutralized by a teacher.
