O Passo Ferroviário Verde (PFV), who arrived recently in Lisbon and Porto, set a record of activations in September, announced the Minister of Infrastructure, Miguel Pinto Luz, on Wednesday.
“85,000 in one month. A new record. September was the month with most Green Rail Passes activated ever. More people choosing the train. More mobility. More freedom to travel the country. And all for 20€ per month“ revealed the ruler in a shared publication on social networks.
“ We created the Green Railroad Pass to make the railway more accessible and bring the country closer together. The Portuguese responded. 85,000 passes in September. ♪ Never been so many ♪. And we want to continue to grow the railway in Portugal”, added the ruler.
How does it work?
The Green Railway Pass (PFV) has already reached the urban train lines of the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto, allowing those who only use the train to buy only this title for 20 euros a month. Do you know how it works?
“The Green Rail Pass is valid at CP, for Portuguese and foreign residents in Portugal, and can be purchased any day. This pass is loaded on the CP Card for the desired period of validity (30, 60 or 90 days). Its validity corresponds to the modality acquired and for a specific period, so, a Pass carrier not loaded or expired will not be able to travel, being considered a Customer without a transport permit and subject to the imposition of a fine ", can be read on the CP website – Comboios de Portugal.
The carrier also adds that “it allows travel on any national route and now also on the Urban trains of Lisbon and Porto”.
What are the prices?
According to the information available on the CP website, there are the following modalities:
Green Railway Pass – 30 days – 20,00 €;
Green Railway Pass – 60 days – 40,00 €;
Green Railway Pass – 90 days – 60.00 €.
The CP stresses that “no other discounts apply”.
How much do you save?
According to the government, savings can reach EUR 480 per year.
“For 20€/month, those who use only the train on their journeys can have a simpler and more economical alternative to current titles. Savings can reach €480 per year”, said the Executive, in a shared publication on social networks.
The suggested example is a Famalicão – Porto link, whose monthly price is around 60 euros. With the 20 euro pass, annual savings will amount to EUR 480.
In a statement, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing also informs that the extension of the Green Railway Pass “to Fertagus is being operationalized and will be announced in due course”.
According to the government, this enlargement allows a passenger to “travel across all CP lines, from north to south of the country, with the exception of Alfa Pendular and Intercities (1st Class), either on frequent trips to work, study or leisure trips”.
