A patrícia Sampaio (-78 kg) finished fifth in the Judo Worlds in Baku, losing with the Japanese Kurena Ikeda, by yuko, in the fight for the bronze medal, played at the National Gymnastics Arena.
Sampaio, who lost significantly in the middle of the match, failed to repeat the bronze he had won in the last World Championships in Budapest2025, and joined the Olympic bronze in Paris2024 and the European title in April 2025.
In Baku, 27-year-old judoka eliminated Turkish Tuana Gulenay, Belgian Vicky Verschaere, in 37 seconds, and Brazilian Beatriz Freitas, before losing in the semifinals with Yelyzaveta Lytvynenko, an opponent who had always won. Relegated to the bronze fight, she was defeated for the third time in so many other fights against Ikeda.
