Plink three civilians died today in Mogadishu during clashes between police and protesters protesting against forced dislodgement and demolition of their homes, denounced former Prime Minister and presidential candidate Hassan Ali Kaire.
“ Security forces opened fire on the residents of Warlaaliska, who had gathered to protest the forced dislodges and the illegal destruction of their property. The initial reports confirm, so far, three deaths and several injuries in serious condition ", said Kaire on social network X.
The former Somali Prime Minister attributed to the current Government “all responsibility for this tragic loss of life”.
The former leader urged the police to “stop violence, protect the citizens who have sworn to defend and put an end to the suffering they are imposing” to the people.
More than 200 houses were demolished in a coordinated surprise operation that began this morning in the Warlaaliska district of Daynile district in Mogadishu, local press agencies reported.
Residents claim that the land was sold to a wealthy businessman, linked to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The demolitions occur despite the government's previous guarantees that the neighborhood would not be affected, after a previous confrontation in which the residents opposed the entry of the security forces into the area.
Somalia has been in a state of conflict and chaos since 1991, when dictator Mohamed Siad Barre was overthrown, leaving the territory without an effective government and under the control of the Islamic militias and warlords.
