“ We condemn today’s attack on the ship ‘MT On Peace’, with Panamanian flag, (...) hit by a projectile during transit by the Strait of Ormuz”, declared the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
The ministry stated that the tanker crew consisted of 19 members, 17 of whom were Indians, and 11 of whom were of Indian nationality.
With the help of the Oman authorities, the wounded were removed from the ship and were receiving medical treatment in Khasab in the sultanate, he added, according to the French agency AFP.
India, which is one of the countries that provides the world's most workforce, has already registered several sailors killed in attacks on ships in the Arabian Sea and the Strait of Ormuz since the start of the Middle East war.
An Indian sailor was killed in September in an attack on a freighter, also off Oman.
“ Continued attacks on maritime traffic in the region are of great concern in India,” the Indian Ministry said.
“ We reiterate our call for an immediate cessation of these attacks in the interest of peace and stability in the region,” added New Delhi.
Iran has blocked the strict of Ormuz since it was attacked by the United States and Israel in late February, with negative consequences for the trade in hydrocarbons in the countries of the region.
