O india's government today reported that a tanker with 15 Indian crew members on board was attacked when sailing in the Strait of Ormuz, with no record of casualties.
According to the Minister for Maritime Transport, Sarbanand Sonowal, the ship ‘MT ST 3’ was “reached by a projectile in the Strait of Ormuz”, with the Indian crew safe.
The incident is added to that reported against a vessel with nine Indian-born sailors, the chemical tanker ‘YARA J’, hit Wednesday by a drone in Black Sea waters near Romania.
The minister stressed that all 24 Indian citizens involved in the two incidents “are safe” and that there was no record of deaths or injuries.
“ We are closely monitoring both situations and maintaining close contact with the companies managing the vessels, in order to ensure the continued safety and well-being of our crew members,” he assured in a publication on social networks.
The United States has stated that more than 40 commercial vessels have transited through the Strait of Ormuz in the last 24 hours, despite Iran's restrictions and attacks in the region.
“ Despite the attack [on GFS Pride], commercial vessels continue to transit through the Strait of Ormuz, whose main routes remain mine-free. More than 40 vessels have sailed the region in the last 24 hours,” said U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), in a message on social networks.
The Americans reported that the recent shipwreck of the Singapore flag GFS Pride was caused by a missile fired by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
CENTCOM reported that the ship “was hit by a Revolutionary Guard projectile,” after they previously claimed that the vessel sank after colliding with a naval mine.
“ The ship sank as it was towed toward the coast,” said the Commando.
“ Despite the attack, commercial ships continue to transit through the Strait of Ormuz, whose main routes remain mine-free; more than 40 vessels have sailed the region in the last 24 hours,” said CENTCOM in a message published on social networks.
In this context, the U.S. Command denied Tehran’s allegations about the control of the Ormuz Strait, stressing that “the United States and its regional partners control the strait, while commercial ships continue to transit through this route despite the unjustified aggression of the Revolutionary Guard.”.
