O british Prime Minister Andy Burnham today stated that the incident near the British Fairford Air Base at the end of September was “almost certainly orchestrated” by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard of Iran (IRGC).
“ I can confirm that, according to our assessment, it is highly likely to have been coordinated from Iran and almost certainly directed by the Islamic Revolution Guards of Iran,” said the Labour leader in parliament.
Burnham pledged to fight “the use by Iran of criminal networks, mobilizing all powers to combat them and their funding networks”.
On September 27, police intervened near Fairford Air Base (southwest England), used by the United States to conduct attacks against Iran, after being alerted to the existence of “three suspicious vehicles.”.
Seven people, six British and one with British and Iranian dual nationality, were arrested in the course of the investigation on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts but released under bail.
The vehicles found gasoline, but not explosive devices.
The government today announced new sanctions against Tehran and called on Iran's ambassador to London.
The new sanctions target two Iranian citizens for their involvement “in hostile activities on behalf of the Iranian regime, with the clear objective of threatening, planning or executing attacks abroad,” Foreign Minister Ed Miliband said.
This is Ruhollah Bazghandi, head of counterintelligence operations within the Islamic Revolution Guards, and Shahram Ali Reza Tamarzadeh Jakki, identified as intermediary of a criminal network.
Both have their assets in the UK immediately frozen and are forbidden to remain in British territory.
The Revolutionary Guards, Iran's ideological army, are on the official list of entities designated as state threats, Miliband recalled.
