Portugal won four medals in inclusive sailing Worlds, which ended on Saturday in Portimão, including the gold of José Campos, who became world champion in ILCA 6.
At the premiere in international competitions, José Campos, 14 years old, won 10 of the 14 races, ensuring the world title in the race that brought together 222 sailors from 40 countries for 10 days.
Portugal also reached third place in class ILCA 6, through Rodrigo Pereira, who started sailing a little over a year ago.
In the Inclusive Two Person Keelboat class (Hansa 303 double), João Pinto and Carlos Santos finished in second place, after a recovery on the last day, in which they obtained a second and a third place in the races, rising two positions in the overall ranking.
João Pinto also won third place in Hansa 303, the class with the highest number of participants, where Polish Piotr Cockocki won.
The Portuguese sailor had been the world's runner-up in the first edition of the World Sailing Inclusion Championships, played in Oman in 2025.
In the RS Venture Connect class, the duo, European vice-champion, Pedro Cancio Reis and Theodore Cândido, of the Solidary Sailing, stayed out of the podium when finishing in fourth place.
The performance of the national delegation motivated congratulations from the President of the Republic, António José Seguro, who praised the performance of José Campos for the achievement of the world title for athletes with intellectual and cognitive disabilities, considering the achievement of an “inspiring example of talent, perseverance and ability to overcome “because it is the international debut of the young sailor.
The head of state also highlighted the remaining three medals won by Portuguese athletes in the competition, stressing that the results obtained honor the country and show that “sport is truly for everyone”.
The World Championship, co-organized by World Sailing and the Solidary Sailing Association, took place over ten days at the Portimão Marina and brought together 222 sailors from 40 countries.
