O Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today described the arrest warrant issued by the United States against his predecessor, Raúl Castro, accused of murder as a “pitiful circus of Miami”.
“ The reprehensible action against the Army General this morning in a pathetic Miami circus, with an electoral past, has neither, nor will ever, the least legal and much less practical sense,” said the President on social network X.
Diaz-Canel stressed that “this legal clothing maneuver by anti-cuba politicians against Raúl and against Cuba” deserves a “firm condemnation”.
For the Cuban leader, the measure “is part of the aggressive enthusiasm” of the United States against the island and “responses to obstacles trying to justify the blockade and collective punishment” against the Cuban people.
The Florida Public Prosecutor's Office (USA) announced that it had obtained a warrant for arrest against former President Raúl Castro (2008-2018), for conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree by killing in 1996 two small aircraft belonging to a humanitarian organization, state attorney general James Uthmeier said.
In turn, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez described this action as a “new sterile maneuver of the anti-cuba politicians of South Florida” and warned that he “supports the aggressive machine of which so many have lived for decades, taking advantage of the corruption of the U.S. political system.”.
The island’s chief of diplomacy accused Florida politicians of “reflecting the political rot and moral collapse with which a group of parasites deceive and deceive their followers to continue to contribute to collection and funding.”.
The warrant against Raul Castro was issued after Uthmeier last year ordered the reopening of the investigation into Castro's involvement in the attack that killed four people, when he was then Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR).
Castro was also formally accused last May by the U.S. federal court for his alleged involvement in the events, including charges of murder and conspiracy to kill U.S. citizens
Cuba and the United States have been going through their most tense moment in decades, marked by a serious internal crisis on the island and a policy of “maximum pressure” by Washington since the beginning of 2026, first with an oil blockade and sanctions since May that concern foreign companies.
