A French National Anti-Terrorism Attorney (PNAT) announced today that he had suspended, for psychiatric reasons, the pre-trial arrest of the suspect of the Friday shooting outside Paris, in which one person died and five were injured.
According to the prosecutor, the analyses performed also detected ‘cannabis’ and cocaine in the suspect’s blood.
On Friday, in Trappes, in the department of Yvelines, southwest of the French capital, a man opened fire from a car, supposedly intended to hit immigrants, having caused death to a person and injuries in five more, some of them with gravity, including a 12-year-old girl shot by eight shots.
He was “a racist, probably Islamofóbica, connotation,” then accused the mayor of Trappes, Ali Rabeh.
The PNAT announced the opening of an investigation for “homicide related to a terrorist action, with the aggravating circumstance that the acts were committed because of belonging – real or supposed – to a particular race, ethnicity, nation or religion.”.
After the attack, the 39-year-old suspect was arrested in Coignières (Yvelines), and a Sten-type machine gun and tear gas bomb were found in the vehicle he used to make the shots, according to police source.
The searches carried out at his residence in Plaisir, a few kilometers from the scene of the shooting, revealed “the installation of a trap device in the apartment, with three gas tanks and electrical wires connected to a timer”, with the probable objective of detonating when the security forces arrived at the site, explained the PNAT.
