O PS de Gaia today accused the government of leaving the Eduardo Santos Silva Hospital “forgotten” from the State Budget (OE) to 2027 by not predicting “one euro investment for new buildings”.
In a statement released today, the Socialists recalled that, at the inauguration of the heliport of Gaia Hospital, in June, the chairman of the board of directors of Gaia/Espinho asked the Prime Minister to include in the OE a 10% of the 280 million euros needed for the construction of three new buildings.
“The government responded with zero,” says the PS of Gaia, who lamented the “two consecutive years without a euro of registered structural investment for one of the largest hospitals in the country.”.
For the PS, which listed the investments made in this equipment when the party was in the government, “the lack of investment is also another hatchet in the aspiration of elevation of the Hospital de Gaia to university hospital”.
“The professionals who hold this hospital and the users of Gaia and Espinho deserve more and deserve better services”, they consider.
The Socialists of Gaia, who demand that the Government correct the OE in this field, also accused the mayor, Luís Filipe Menezes, of “lack of influence and political intervention in this process”.
On June 8, when the president (ULS) of Vila Nova de Gaia/Espinho asked the Government to register 10% of the 280 million euros needed for the construction of three new buildings, Luís Matos considered it the “structural step” that the project needs to advance safely.
In question, he explained at the time the person responsible, is an integrated renewal plan aimed at harnessing existing infrastructure and building what is necessary to “give body to a modern, functional and dignified hospital”.
The president of ULS Gaia/Espinho stressed that the purpose is to build three new buildings, namely the center of the woman and the child, which will concentrate the services of obstetrics, gynecology, neonatology and pediatrics, the ophthalmological outpatient clinic, which will integrate all ophthalmological activity, and the building of internment of medical specialties and the institute of the heart.
