The PS wants the Government to clarify whether it has any more understanding with the Aquis, in addition to the written agreement for the rental law, a subject on which socialists did not feel welcome for negotiations.

Ua day after the leader of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, had asked the government to drop the agreement with the Aça in the review of the rent law, the Socialist National Secretariat met at the party headquarters in Lisbon to discuss the issue, having been André Moz Caldas to hold the press conference, in which he again criticized the proposal of the government that followed last week for the discussion in the specialty thanks to the abstention of the Enough.
“ And the government now takes an additional step, behind which we will not allow it to hide, concluded a written agreement with the Enough. It is the first since the Aquista exists as a political party in Portuguese society and we ignore its content. Is it just for this law? Does it cover more than this law?”, questioned.
For the head of the PS, “the government owes these answers to the Portuguese”.
“ For the Portuguese to understand what is, after all, this strategy of the Government, which seems to appreciate negotiating with a partner who, at the last minute, would no longer be the first time that ended up not honouring their commitments,” he said, in a criticism of the party led by André Ventura.
On the answer given today by the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, who considered that, if the PS “made up” on the subject of rents, cannot now demand the Government not to dialogue with other parties, André Moz Caldas argued that “there was no movement by the government to listen to the positions of the Socialist Party”.
“And from one day to the next, after a very hard intervention, from the verbal point of view, by the leader of the Arrival, the next day there was already a written agreement, whose content we all ignore. And so the Socialist Party does not feel that it has been welcome to the negotiating table on this issue,” he stressed.
For the leader of the PS, if the Prime Minister believes that he should dialogue with the PS, “he should withdraw the proposal for legislative authorization, seek to build a bill of direct change”, discussed “previously with the Socialist Party”.
The PS, according to Moz Caldas, does not exclude the possibility of presenting proposals in the specialty process, although its bill was passed on the day this government proposal was approved.
“ Let us examine in detail the possibility of seeking, or, in the framework of this proposal, but preferably with autonomous initiatives, the possibility of realising guarantees for the relationship between landlords and tenants to remain balanced, giving the landlords confidence that they can put their properties on the rental market and guarantees to tenants that, if they are circumstantially placed in situations of economic shortage, they do not have their housing situation imminently at risk,” he said.
