“ O deal's been closed. Our President will certainly meet with the Chinese leader,” Yuri Ushakov, international adviser to the Kremlin, told the Russian press.

Putin has already confirmed his presence at the APEC summit, but did not do the same with regard to the G20 summit, which will take place in December in the U.S. state of Florida.

Ushakov said that the three leaders are aware that a tripartite meeting on the margins of the APEC summit is feasible, but he stressed that, in practical terms, neither party initiated preparations.

“I confirm that [the tripartite meeting] is an interesting idea,” said Kremlin’s head, adding that it is clear that Chinese hosts will reserve “a space on the agenda for bilateral and possibly trilateral meetings.”.

In addition, Trump has not yet confirmed his presence in November in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, “so the possibility of a tripartite meeting depends on it”.

“ This will be a good time for leaders to find themselves, one way or another, in the margins of the summit,” said Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the presidency, on public television at the end of September.

Trump, who asked the Russian leader in the last telephone conversation between the two, to put an end to military actions in Ukraine, said — after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly — that the possibility of applying the new sanctions package against Moscow is reserved.

This package provides for the imposition of tariffs of up to 100% on countries importing Russian hydrocarbons, Beijing being the major customer of energy exports from Moscow, which finance the war in Ukraine.
