Rui Borges surrenders to the Sporting exhibition: “Fantastic team”

Perfect plan in France: “We clearly knew we were going to face a very intense and competitive team, and we were very strong in counterattacks, strong in possession and calming the game, to have that security. With a little more quality we could... Geny sometimes and Luis Suárez, we miss passes that are not usual. We could have created more danger in transition. But above all, very competent game of the whole team, with the same focus, rigor, ambition and humility. That’s what I asked for and the team had the 90 minutes.”

Basefield for counterattacks: “We knew that Lens had difficulties in depth. The second goal was a little bit that, the second lines breaking, driving. They tried their best. The initial phase was difficult, due to the intensity of Lens and the environment, but we were holding on, growing. We were a very mature team throughout the game, organized, never questioned anything. Fantastic team.”

Change in goal: “Kaique, within what we wanted, was there, showed that he is here to help. Glad you got the chance the best way, kid who has huge potential. He's a kid, no matter how tall and older he looks. He’s a kid with a way to go and grow up.”

Suárez checks log: “I always said that Suárez would be Suárez. I never questioned anything. There was a lot of noise. It's natural that the market has messed with a lot of people, not just him. To the technical team has always had respect. Sometimes it's knowing how to understand them and how to pull them for us. The same Luis giving his life in the field and making goals.”

Rui Borges equals Amorim: “It’s not an answer. It's for the Bernards of this life that sometimes come around. I'm focused on the path, happy for what I've achieved. I'm happy for the team. Rui's still meeting other goals, surely. Happy for the team and for these kids full of humility and ambition.”
