Insurance calls for new political culture and welcomes approximation between Government and PS

Nthe commemorative ceremony of the 116th anniversary of the implementation of the Republic, in the city square, in Lisbon, António José Seguro insisted on the need for “lasting solutions” and urged the political actors to abandon “a culture of trenches” and adopt “new behaviors”.

“Portugal needs a new political culture, based on inter-party understandings and commitments, focused on concrete resolution of people’s problems and a strategic vision for Portugal. Acting on the short term with an idea of the future for Portugal requires public policies that apply in several legislatures. We cannot always go back to the beginning”, he said.

In his first speech as Head of State on Republic Day, António José Seguro added: “We cannot go back to the beginning all the time, just because a legislature has changed. Political parties, social partners and other actors in society must understand the fundamental paths for our development. There is no time to lose”.

“ In this regard, I welcome the Government and the PS on their approach towards the approval of the state budget for next year. May other parties join this path of compromise and convergence in this and other legislative processes. As I have always said, both Portugal is served in the government and in the opposition ", said, further ahead.

The President of the Republic then referred to those who “perhaps only act on the basis of electoral incentives” and expressed the conviction that “the Portuguese appreciate and reward the parties and political actors who agree on solutions to improve people’s concrete lives”.
