O Sporting today secured the Main Round of the League of Handball Champions by winning at the reception to Szeged for 34-28, while FC Porto was removed from the race by losing 36-33 in front of Fücshe Berlin.
After losing the first points in the group phase in the previous round by stalling in the Hungarians 35-35, the ‘Leonin’ team today imposed on Szeged, returning to the first place in Group D, with seven points, plus one of the Danes of the GOG, who today won the Kristianstad Swedes by 39-30.
To win in order to still be able to dream of a possible clearance, FC Porto ended up defeated in the reception to the Füchse Berlin, being immediately unable to overcome the Germanic formation.
The Füchse, who had already beaten the ‘dragons’ in the previous round by 40-32, is ranked second, with six points, to two of the Hungarian commanders of Veszprem, while the ‘blues and whites’ occupy the third position, with only two points.
In the new format of the Champions League, which came into force this season, the first two of each group will be cleared for the Main Round, in which the 12 qualified formations will be divided into two groups of six each.
