ANDbetween january and june, 72,232 children were examined, of which 7,022 presented severe acute malnutrition and other 13,182 moderate acute malnutrition, according to the report of the UN agency, which indicated that, during the same period, 6,634 children were admitted to stabilization centers for hospital treatment and 5,643 were discharged.

“The national cure rate was 93.4%, while mortality and treatment dropout rates were 3.2% each,” the WHO observed.

Mortality, however, varied considerably across the country, with three states representing almost three quarters of all reported deaths.

Central Ecuador recorded 88 deaths, equivalent to 17.8% of hospital discharges in the state, followed by Eastern Ecuador, with 22 deaths and Western Ecuador with 21.

According to the report, increased violence between government troops and armed opposition, mass displacement, economic decline and climate impacts are aggravating a crisis that reduces food availability for South Sudanese families every day.
