A shot imposed by Benfica in reception to Celtic (4-1), on Thursday night, put the eagles on top of the favorite clubs to win the Europa League, according to the data of Opta, updated on the morning of Friday.
Marco Silva's team took the lead in the predictions of Opta's supercomputer, surpassing the competition of Bournemouth and Bayer Leverkusen Germans.
In practice, Benfica now has a 15,23% chance of being the big winner of UEFA's second largest club race, surpassing 13.54% of Germany's training and 11,89% of all England.
At the same time, eagles also become the least likely team (12.23%) not to reach the phase to eliminate, accumulating almost 90% of chances of being present in the eighths of the final (87.75%).
The arrival to the quarterfinals is now 69.15%, while in the halffinals it is 44.71%. For the presence in the final, which will take place in Frankfurt, Germany, on May 27, Benfica has 26.89% odds.
What about Torreense?
Torreense is the other Portuguese team in this Europe League and accounts for a victory and a defeat after the first two days, keeping alive the dream of reaching at least the playoff of access to the eighth finals.
Currently positioned in the 19th position of the classification table, the formation of Torres Vedras, who has played the European games in Leiria, brings together only 0.25% of the chances of reaching the 8th finals, according to the same data from Opta.
What is next for Benfica and Torreense?
After measuring forces with AC Milan (2-0) and Celtic (4-1), Benfica is now preparing to measure forces with Omonia from Cyprus, following the clashes with Lech Poznan (home), Viktoria Plzen (outside), OFI (home), NEC (outside) and AZ Alkmaar (house).
In turn, the Torreense, who beat the Lillestrom (2-1) and was defeated by the Sunderland (1-2), will face the Ferencvaros of Hungary in the next round, before facing the FC Ararat (home), Celtic (house), Real Sociedad (outside), Lech Poznan (outside) and Olympiacos (house).
What does Amorim and Paulo Fonseca expect?
Still on the predictions of Opta in the Europe League, it is worth looking at the cases of AC Milan and Lyon, teams guided by the Portuguese Ruben Amorim and Paulo Fonseca, respectively.
The Gaul formation so far amounts to six points, such as Benfica, but has little more than 50% chance of being in the eighths of the final (52.49%), this percentage being much lower as far as the final (9.93 %).
On the other hand, AC Milan, which was curiously defeated in the inaugural round by the eagles, in the middle of San Siro, will have to pedal to reverse the current predictions of Opta, which only gives it 24.38% chances of being present among the 16 best teams in the Europe League. As for a possible presence in the final, the forecasts point to 9.74%.
It should be noted that before this edition of the Europa League, the great favourite to win the competition, according to Opta, was Bournemouth.
