O National Banking Boards and Technicians Union (SNQTB) accepted DGERT's proposal for a 3% wage update in BCP in 2026, with retroactive effects on January 1, and now the decision is in the hands of the bank.
The Directorate-General for Employment and Labour Relations (DGERT) also presented, on October 2, 2025, an update of the wage scales and financial expression clauses of 2.5%, also with retroactive effects on January 1.
BCP now has 10 days from receipt of the proposal to inform the mediator of its position, according to SNQTB.
If the bank accepts the proposal, the path will be opened to complete the negotiation process, with the payment of the difference corresponding to a percentage point in relation to the 2026 update, with retroactive effects on January 1.
The SNQTB had rejected the 2% initially proposed by Banco Comercial Português (BCP) for this year, having resorted to legal conciliation and mediation mechanisms to seek a solution that it considered more balanced.
“ The facts have confirmed that we were right not to accept 2%. The proposal presented by DGERT demonstrates that there is room for an update of 3% and represents a significant evolution compared to the 2% that the BCP decided to advance unilaterally ", says the union.
The DGERT proposal comes after the entity has also appointed the 3% as a reference for the 2026 salary update in the context of the sectorial negotiation with the Credit Institutions Negotiator Group (GNIC), a proposal that was not accepted by this body.
For the SNQTB, the new 3% proposal for the specific BCP process reinforces the union's position that the salary update should be higher than 2%.
The union also considers that, in a sector with positive results, it is necessary to ensure that workers and pensioners at the bank do not continue to lose purchasing power.
The acceptance of the proposal by the SNQTB allows for progress in the specific process of the BCP, but the union stresses that the most comprehensive issue of the salary update in the banking sector remains unresolved.
Also in the sectorial negotiation, DGERT proposed an update of 3%, without reaching, so far, an agreement with the general banking.
The SNQTB maintains, however, the actions of struggle announced with the other unions, with a demonstration with the BCP scheduled for November 25.
“The SNQTB did its part. We negotiated, tried to bring positions closer together, we used the conciliation and mediation mechanisms and we accepted a solution presented by an independent public body. Now, the decision is in the hands of the BCP ", concludes the union.
