The Portalegre Court today acquitted the socialist councilor in the House of Elvas, Nuno Younginha, from the prevarication of holder of political office, for events that occurred between 2015 and 2018, when he presided over that municipality.

Nuno Young lady was still in the process of losing the term of office of a member of a representative local authority, a situation which the court also did not validate.
The sentence, read in a synthesized way, emphasises that the facts that the Public Prosecutor (MP) accused the defendants Nuno Youngie and the former director of the Financial and Development Department of the Municipality of Elvas Paulo Dias were not proven, equally acquitted.
The defendants were accused by the MP, in coauthorship material and in the consummated form, of a crime of prevarication of holder of political office. Nuno Young lady was still in the process of losing her term of office as a member of a representative local authority, while the former director of the Financial Department was risking an accessory penalty for prohibiting the exercise of office.
In statements to journalists at the end of the sentence, Nuno Young lady considered that “justice was done” and that “since the first hour” was considered “not guilty in this case”.
“ Today it was proved that none of that [accusation] corresponded to the truth and then, of course, I am satisfied because in practice justice was done”, he added.
In the charge, to which Lusa had access, the MP indicated that between 2015 and 2018, the then mayor Nuno Younginha, influenced by Paulo Dias, would have concluded contracts, by direct adjustment, for the purchase of cleaning services with companies owned by an entrepreneur.
According to the MP, the manager of these companies and the then director of the Financial Department will have, on that date and for a certain period, a loving relationship.
The MP requested that the loss of the advantages obtained by the defendants be declared through the conduct they have adopted, which allegedly violate the rules governing the award of works by direct adjustment by public authorities and the principles of pursuing public interest and transparency.
He also intended that the defendants be sentenced to payment of EUR 292,735.77, which corresponds to the value of the advantage they presumably generated with the practice of criminal offences they are accused of.
Nuno Mocinha was president of the Municipality of Elvas during two terms (2013/2017 and 2017/2021) and, since the municipal elections of October 12, 2025, he is a councilor of the PS, having been appointed vice president by the current mayor of Elvas, José Rondão Almeida, of the Civic Movement By Elvas (MCPE).
