Trump authorizes Americans to buy duty-free diesel

The President of the United States (USA) signed a decree to relax the limits on duty-free use of red diesel, a decision that, according to Donald Trump, will save farmers “millions” and reduce the cost of all goods.

Othe prices of diesel have skyrocketed following the war with Iran, disturbing voters and putting pressure on Republicans.

Oil for off-road use, such as agriculture, is exempt from federal and state excise duties and is stained with red for law enforcement purposes, the White House explained in a press release.

Temporary removal of limits will reduce cost pressures on companies dependent on diesel.

“The typical trucker will save more than $100 [89 euros] each time he fills the deposit,” Trump said, signing the executive decree, on a stage before a crowd in Grand Island, Nebraska, a traditionally conservative region, located in the center of the US, where the head of state moved in election campaign action, four weeks after the mid-term elections.

“ Farmers will also save millions and millions of dollars, and this decree will also reduce the cost of all goods and hence food prices in a very substantial way,” he added.

Despite the signing of the decree in public, Trump admitted not to be familiar with the subject. “I have no idea what the hell it is,” he said. “But whatever it is, they say it’s very good,” he added.

The trip to Nebraska was part of what the Republican President described as a 32-day marathon rally before November 3, which so far led him to markedly Republican territories such as Oklahoma (south-central) and Alabama (east).

On Wednesday, Trump will make the second stop in two weeks in Texas (central-south), with a rally in the city of San Antonio.

US voters are frustrated at the way Trump has managed the economy, including persistently high fuel and food costs, an important issue for rural voters, who supported the President and the Republican Party in the last elections.
