O president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Friday that he had a “highly successful discussion” with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in which they agreed that Russia will supply about five million tons of oil to US and global markets.
For now, Trump indicated in the Social Truth, it was “awakened that Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of oil to the US and world markets.”.
Later, another 500,000 tons will be delivered during the month of November “and then more than one million tons”.
“ In addition, given the state of its oil refineries, Russia will provide, in a short period of time, another 3,000,000 tons of oil,” Trump added.
After the accounts, Russia undertook to make some five million tonnes of oil available.
For Trump, taking into account “this great announcement” and the “total control of the Strait of Ormuz”, it is expected that “fuel prices for Americans and, in fact, for the whole world, will fall at an unprecedented rate and quickly”.
“ The price reduction for Americans, especially for our big farmers, cattle farmers and truckers, is my MOST PRIORITY,” the US President said, repeating that it is a “very important announcement”.
The agreement comes after, last month, Trump enacted a law passed by Congress that extends sanctions to Russia and allows tariffs up to 100% to be imposed on countries that buy Russian energy.
The measure imposes sanctions on the Russian authorities, banks and a clandestine fleet of tankers maintaining Russian oil exports. It further authorizes Trump to impose tariffs up to 100% on the five largest importers of Russian oil or natural gas, with the exception of countries that import less than 15% of Russia's natural gas exports and that have taken significant steps to reduce this flow.
The purpose of the measure was to deprive Putin's financial resources needed to wage the war against Ukraine and represented the most ambitious effort to support Ukrainians since Trump's return to the White House in 2025.
The bill is named after the late senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, who spent more than a year negotiating the measure, and was approved by 262 votes (159 against).
