Donald Trump created a commission to listen to the governor of the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed), Lisa Cook, who so far has not been able to remove, but the lawyers of the target have doubts about the “legitimacy” of this process.
“ The committee will examine the charges against Governor Cook and will inform me if there is a ‘reason’ to justify her dismissal,” wrote the American President in a document released today by the White House and quoted by AFP.
Trump also states that the committee should listen to Lisa Cook on November 5, “in the White House for a period not exceeding four hours”.
Since the summer of 2025, the President has considered having a “reason” to overthrow Lisa Cook, the only black woman who has so far joined the Fed Board of Governors.
Trump accuses the governor, in her 60s, of having been dishonest in requests for loans to housing for personal use, by presenting, in a short time, two separate houses as the main residence.
Lisa Cook rejected any irregularity and immediately appealed to justice. The Supreme Court of the United States imposed on the President a rare setback by allowing the governor to remain in office.
Lisa Cook’s lawyers, in turn, have “serious doubts” about the “legitimacy” of his client’s hearing that Donald Trump intends to organize in the White House, said today, according to AFP.
The lawyers said, however, that Lisa Cook welcomes “the opportunity to present the facts to clear her name and demonstrate that there is no legal basis to justify her dismissal.”.
