“ Mai once, the Huthis, supported by Iran, targeted infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, including a refinery and airports,” wrote Ursula von der Leyen in a shared message on social networks.
“ These attacks continue to destabilise the region, further inflame violence and undermine global energy security,” he said, stressing that national security will be one of the central themes of the Gulf Cooperation Council meeting at the end of this month.
The Yemeni political and armed group of Huthis, supported by Iran, claimed on Monday an attack on Riyadh International Airport and again reached an Aramco refinery and military infrastructure.
The attacks, carried out with drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, “were targeted at Riyadh International Airport,” said military spokesman Huthi, Yahya Saree, adding that “the Aramco refinery in Rabigh” was also hit, as well as military facilities and airports in the south of the country.
The hostilities between Yemen's government forces, supported by Saudi Arabia, and Huthis fighters, who have ruled much of the country for a decade, were resumed in July, after years of relative calm, opening a new front in the Middle East war.
In February, the United States and Israel attacked Iran, starting a conflict that spread in the region.
