Nthe total, this sanction scheme covers 80 individuals and 20 entities, targeted with a freezing of goods, ban on entry into european territory and prohibition on funds being provided to them by european companies or citizens.
This sanctions regime was set up in October 2024 to target “persons and entities involved in actions and policies of the Government of the Russian Federation that undermine the fundamental values of the EU and its Member States as well as their security, stability, independence and integrity”.
“The sanctions regime also covers those responsible for Russia’s hybrid activities against third countries and international organisations”, indicates the institution.
European countries are increasingly concerned about the increase in hybrid attacks such as fires, airspace violations and sabotage acts attributed to Russia.
In recent months, there have been several such incidents in countries such as Poland, Germany, Bulgaria or Estonia, which have led the President of the European Commission to propose a European mechanism against hybrid attacks.
