Nthe day on which three years have been marked since the attacks, the president of the European Council, António Costa, gave on social networks “homenagement to Israeli and foreign citizens massacred that day” and expressed “solidarity to their families and loved ones”, as well as to those taken hostage.

“We will never forget. Nothing can justify such a terror and it will never happen again,” said the EU’s external representative.

The former Portuguese Prime Minister reiterated that the EU will always defend “Israel’s right to exist in peace and security” and considered that the two-state solution remains “the only viable way to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East”.

Costa has advocated the implementation of the peace plan for Gaza and the coexistence of a state of Israel and an independent and democratic Palestinian state.

Also today through social networks, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, reminded victims and families “who continue to bear the heavy burden of mourning”, whose lives were “always changed” that day.

“The unspeakable barbarism and terror of October 7th can never happen again,” he said.

The EU executive leader added that the EU is ready to help transform the current ceasefire into a lasting peace based on a two-state solution, reaffirming that “nothing justifies terror.”.

Criticized initially for not talking about the humanitarian crisis in Palestine following these attacks, Von der Leyen lamented in his speech on the State of the Union in September the suffering in Gaza and the violence in the West Bank caused by Israel.

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, recalled today on social media the “black 7 October 2023”.

“ Some days they stay with us. The scars are still very open to so many”, said, defending “a path to peace”.

The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, in turn, classified the attacks of October 7 as “a barbaric act of terror”, while still claiming to expect the advance of the peace plan for Gaza.

Hamas' attack of October 7, 2023 in Israel, in a place where an electronic music festival took place, caused the death of 1,200 people and more than 251 people were abducted.

This attack triggered a devastating war in Gaza, leaving much of the territory in ruins and its population of two million people living in precarious conditions.
