O the leader of the Aquida considered today that “there were blockades” to the parliamentary inquiry into the mandates of Luís Neves as director of the Judicial Police and argued that it should work during the discussion of the State Budget.

“ We are really going to go ahead with the committee of inquiry, we are going to ask it not to stop and that we can quickly get to the pace of our work and what we have to do”, he said.

André Ventura spoke to journalists in the Assembly of the Republic, minutes after the inauguration of the parliamentary committee of inquiry (CPI) to the mandates of Luís Neves in charge of the Judiciary Police (JP), of which he is president, which dictated the official start of the work.

“ I think it is important that Parliament understands the urgency and importance of this committee of inquiry, and I have also had the opportunity to tell Members that this is what I will pass on to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, which is our desire not to suspend the work, of course, in view of what he will have to say on this issue,” he added.

The chairman of the CPI also left a “commitment and guarantee” that, regardless of his position, “this committee will work with respect for all parties, saying what they want, promoting the lines of investigation they want, asking for the documents they want, calling whoever they want to call, doing the steps they want to do”.

“ We will give everyone space within, of course, the object of the commission ", indicated.

“ This function is even guaranteed by one thing that I think is sacred, it is this committee not having locks, not having conditionings and we can reach the truth regardless of the interests installed ", he added.

André Ventura took advantage of this statement to journalists to respond to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, who said there were no blockades to this CPI.

“ It was not my place to respond directly to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, but there were blockades, yes there were attempts at conditioning, yes there were attempts to stop, and that is all that should not happen in a parliamentary committee of inquiry”, he argued.

Ventura said “to respect the institutions very much” and will seek to safeguard them while preside over this CPI.

“ Another is to understand that it was a long time ago that Luís Neves should have left the office of minister. But the commission of inquiry would continue to work even if Luís Neves left the position of minister ", said, again insisting on the resignation of the Minister of Internal Administration.

About the Free having announced that he will request his hearing at the CPI, André Ventura accused this party of trying to “again block the commission of inquiry”, but said he was available to testify.

“ I'm heard every day, everywhere. I think that if there is anyone who cannot say that it is not heard and that it is not questioned every day, it is me [...]. My difference to Luís Neves is this, I never run away from the truth, never, and never run away from the questions ", he said.

Aguiar-White warns about legal limits of CPI to the MAI. Ventura responds

The President of the Assembly of the Republic warned that the inquiry into Minister Luís Neves is subject to the limits of law and democratic loyalty. The leader of the Aquida rejected “blocks”.
