A new York stock exchange closed aimlessly, with the technological sector recovering some of the heavy losses suffered the day before, associated with fears about the profitability of artificial intelligence (AI).
The result of the session indicates that the Nasdaq technological index advanced 1.09% and the extended S&P500 gained 0.31%, while the selective Dow Jones Industrial Average retreated 0.46%.
“ The manufacturers of integrated circuits led today's recovery, but their gains were imitated in relation to the losses of the day before ", commented the analysts of Briefing. Com.
On Thursday, Nasdaq suffered its worst session since April 2025, when it fell 5.52%, penalized by the fall of AI bonds. In turn, the S&P500 devalued 4.35%.
The election results in the US are concerned, with the strong defeat of the Republicans, who were interpreted by investors as being able to lead to the loss of speed in the construction of data centres, after opposition by several Democratic elected representatives to these AI units in their constituency.
“Will there be restrictions in this technology? It is likely”, said Peter Cardillo of Spartan Capital Securities, in statements to AFP. But you understand it's too soon to be sure.
However, Nvidia recovered today by valuing 2.78%, after on Thursday it lost 9.30%. Similarly, AMD gained 11.04% and Micron 5.12%, after the loss above 17% on the eve.
“The movement observed today results more from a partial recovery than from a real reversal of the downward trend,” the analysts of Briefing understand. Com.
Nasdaq continues to lose more than 10% of its record set in October, which puts it in the so-called correction phase.
For Jose Torres, from Interactive Brokers, the scholarship square today has also benefited from a better than expected October employment report.
Unemployment has fallen to 4.1% and the 165,000 jobs created are more than twice that of September, according to the figures released by the Department of Labour.
Analysts expected weaker numbers, with stable unemployment in 4.2% and 60,000 jobs.
These data “should confirm the Federal Reserve in its analysis that the labour market is sound,” interpreted Fawad Razaqzada, Forex analyst. Com.
They should also allow the central bank to focus on the fight against inflation, and lead it to raise its reference interest rate at its next meeting in early December.
